How to Integrate sidekick into OBS

Najum Wani, Product Manager

Integrating sidekick with OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is a simple process that allows you to add dynamic widgets, such as the BRB Widget, Shoutout Widget, and Social Rotator, directly to your stream. Follow these steps to seamlessly integrate sidekick into OBS and enhance your live broadcasts.

Step 1: Set Up Your sidekick Account

  • If you haven't already, sign up for a sidekick account at heysidekick.gg and connect your streaming platform (Twitch, Kick, etc.).
  • Customize your profile and select the widgets you want to use in your stream.

Step 2: Access Your Widgets

  • In your sidekick dashboard, navigate to the Widgets tab.
  • Select the widget you want to integrate into OBS.
  • Click on the widget to customize its settings, such as appearance and behavior.
  • Once you're satisfied with the setup, generate a unique Overlay URL for the widget.

Step 3: Open OBS

  • Launch OBS on your computer.
  • If you haven't already, set up your basic scenes and sources.

Step 4: Add a Browser Source

  • In the OBS Scenes panel, select the scene where you want to add your sidekick widget.
  • Click the + button under the Sources panel and select Browser from the list.
  • Name the new source (e.g., "sidekick Widget") and click OK.

Step 5: Integrate the sidekick Widget

  • In the Properties window, paste the Overlay URL you copied from sidekick into the URL field.
  • Adjust the Width and Height to match the desired size of the widget on your stream. A common starting point is 1920 (width) x 1080 (height) for a full HD stream.
  • Click OK to add the widget to your scene.

Step 6: Position and Customize the Widget

  • Back in the main OBS window, you can now see the widget as part of your scene.
  • Use the red bounding box to resize and position the widget on your stream.
  • Make any additional adjustments to ensure the widget integrates seamlessly with your gameplay or content.

Step 7: Test and Go Live

  • Before going live, test your widget to ensure it's functioning as expected. You can do this by entering Preview Mode in OBS or doing a private test stream.
  • If everything looks good, go live and enjoy the enhanced streaming experience with sidekick integrated into OBS!

With sidekick integrated into OBS, your stream will stand out with interactive widgets that engage your audience and elevate your content. Happy streaming!
